Donald Tucker
Don is Senior Director of Legal Underwriting at Counsel Financial. In his role, he performs legal due diligence during the underwriting process in order to fully evaluate law a firm borrowers’ business and their case collateral assets.
Before joining Counsel Financial, Don worked for 17 years as Assistant General Counsel for Nationwide Insurance, a fortune 100 multi-line insurance and financial services company. There, he was responsible for providing legal advice to the company on a wide array of issues involving first/third party claims, underwriting guidelines, product development, litigation matters, regulatory compliance, risk management, market conduct audits, consumer complaints and general business matters. Don has spoken on various topics at Continuing Legal Education courses including “How to Take a Proper Deposition”, “Bad Faith Law in New York” and “Misrepresentation in the Application for Insurance.” Before Nationwide, Don was a Niagara County Assistant District Attorney for five years where he served as a senior trial attorney and grand jury bureau chief. He received his Juris Doctor from the State University of New York at Buffalo, School of Law in 1991 and a Bachelor of Science, cum laude, from the State University College at Buffalo in 1987. Don is licensed to practice law in New York and is a member of the New York State Bar Association.
Don lives in East Amherst, NY with his wife Laura. Outside work, Don can usually be found on the golf course trying to improve his handicap. He also enjoys traveling, cruising, sports (watching, playing & coaching) and outdoor recreational activities
